I wrote a book about the loss of biodiversity in foods including chocolate and it sort of became my focus. I was a visiting scholar at the Cocoa Research Centre in Trinidad and Tobago where I trained in sensory analysis of cocoa + chocolate making, started the first chocolate podcast (using chocolate as a lens to look at social, environmental, economic issues), write a lot about chocolate (everything frm deforestation to child slavery in the cocoa supply chain), and have led chocolate tastings. I share this to say I would be happy to lead a chocolate tasting for the DCTB group OR offer my skills as part of a fundraising effort for some righteous org. I'd suggest bars, we could order them from the maker or Chocolate House (in Dupont Circle), and then I'd lead folks through a tasting (similar to a wine tasting) and making suggestions on buying more ethical chocolate.
